A Day at St James Beach and Beachlimerz Restaurant & Bar
The video goes along with this article was made the last week of Feb 2020. We were on the Celebrity Summit for a week cruise out of San Juan Puerto Rico and St John’s Antigua was our third stop on this southern Caribbean cruise.
Quiet Day Spent Relaxing
The group decided that our third stop would be a quiet day with nothing major planned as far as activities. I did some internet browsing a found a Bar/Restaurant – BeachlLimerz that was on the beach and had everything at hand for what we were looking to do – pretty much nothing!
BeachLimerz
Fort James sits at the entrance to St John’s harbor and has a lovely beach running just to the north of the fort. After looking the area over on Google Maps, I found BeachLimerz sitting right at the edge of the fort. I figured we could go explore the fort and have lunch at the restaurant and spend the day at the beach.
Getting There
I had emailed the owner, Gayle, before our arrival and she scheduled her friend Hillary to pick us up close by where are cruise ship was tied up. It was just a short van ride away and the cost was $12.50 round trip per person. I had pre-booked a day pass that was all inclusive. Lunch, drinks, unlimited use of their non-motorized water sports equipment, and umbrellas and chairs.
Cost Per Person for The Day
Gayle charges $65 US per person for the day. Lunch was so dang good! Ribs, chicken, fried fish, veggies, and rice and she asked if anyone wanted more. We all declined as lunch was quite filling. Dessert was a coconut rum cake/pudding – I’m not a big fan of coconuts, but it was very good also.
An After-Lunch Walk
One of the big reasons for picking this spot was the adjacent fort – Fort James. Begun in 1706 with building dating from the mid 1700’s this fort once had 36 guns and 75 men protecting the harbor. Very much in disarray today it felt spooky to me to walking around the grounds. Maybe it was the overcast sky and misty rain but it was as the men who manned the fort were still lurking in the shadows.
Rain Settles In
BeachLimerz has a couple of spots that you can hang and stay dry and for that Heather and I were thankful. After lunch and our walk, the rain starts in earnest and we spent a wonderful afternoon sitting under a pavilion drinking local beer and listening to the rain beat down and the sound of the waves crashing on the nearby beach.
Ride Back to The Cruise Ship
We had scheduled Hillary to come pick us up and 3pm for our ride back to the dock. While the weather wasn’t the best the day was relaxing and so very much needed. Being on the fast track 24/7, it’s sometimes great to be forced to take it down a notch.
To spend an afternoon just hanging is what this spot was all about!
